This stunning evergreen shrub boasts vibrant pink flowers in spring, summer, and even fall, adding continuous bursts of color to your landscape. Unlike traditional azaleas, it won’t leave you with a bare bush after the initial bloom. Plus, its manageable size of 4-5 feet tall makes it a perfect fit for any garden, bringing life and low-maintenance beauty to your outdoor space.
Dazzling pink blooms are the crowning glory of the Encore® Autumn Carnation Azalea, erupting in waves throughout the spring, summer, and even into fall. Imagine clusters of delicate, five-petaled blossoms, each petal a cool, soft pink with a hint of a velvety texture. As you run your fingers along the petal’s surface, a slight sheen feels cool and smooth, like polished silk.
The flowers start out as tight clusters of deep pink buds, slowly unfurling into these open, vibrant displays. As the seasons progress, the blooms may take on a slightly softer shade of pink, but their overall charm remains undiminished. Each wave of flowers adds a touch of whimsical elegance to your garden, transforming it into a sea of soft pink throughout the year.
Encore® Autumn Carnation Azaleas prefer dappled shade or morning sun with afternoon shade. Avoid intense, hot afternoon sun as it can scorch the blooms. Well-drained, acidic soil (pH 5.0-5.5) is key. If your soil is not acidic, amend it with organic matter like peat moss or composted pine bark to lower the pH.
Mature Encore® Autumn Carnation Azaleas reach 4-5 feet tall and wide. Consider their full size when choosing a planting location. Space multiple Azaleas 5 feet apart to allow for proper growth and air circulation.
Dig a hole roughly twice as wide and deep as the root ball of your Encore® Autumn Carnation Azalea. This allows for proper root expansion and prevents future crowding. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole to encourage root development.
Gently remove your Encore® Autumn Carnation Azalea from its container and loosen any circling roots. Position the tree in the hole so the crown (where the roots meet the stem) sits at ground level. Avoid planting too deep or shallow. Backfill the hole with soil, tamping it down gently to eliminate air pockets and secure the plant in place.
After planting, water your Encore® Autumn Carnation Azalea deeply to settle the soil around the roots and help it overcome transplant shock. Aim to soak the root ball thoroughly.
Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the plant (avoiding the stem) to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Replenish the mulch layer annually. Water deeply once a week, or twice a week during hot or dry weather. Aim to keep the soil moist but not soggy.
Let the Encore® Autumn Carnation Azalea be the centerpiece of your relaxation haven, a tranquil escape where you can unwind and reconnect with nature. This low-maintenance wonder thrives with minimal effort, freeing you to savor those precious moments of peace. Don’t settle for a seasonal garden; embrace the transformative power of an Azalea. Order yours today and watch your dream garden come alive.

Apply 2-3 inches of mulch around the base to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds.
Feed your Azalea in early spring with a fertilizer formulated for acidic plants. Follow the package instructions for dosage.
Prune right after blooming to remove spent flowers, maintain shape, and encourage new growth.
While it tolerates some sun, provide your Azalea with morning sun and afternoon shade for optimal performance.
Ensure acidic soil with a pH of 5.0-5.5. Test the soil yearly and adjust pH with sulfur or iron sulfate if needed.
In colder climates (zones 6-7), apply a thick layer of mulch around the base in late fall to protect the roots from harsh winter winds.
Regularly inspect your Azalea for signs of pests or diseases. Treat organically whenever possible, using insecticidal soap or neem oil for minor infestations.
Give your new Azalea a good soak upon arrival. Wet the roots thoroughly, but avoid leaving it sitting in water. After planting, water deeply to settle the soil around the roots and ensure all areas are evenly moist.
Water deeply once a week, increasing to twice a week during hot or dry spells. Use a soaker hose or drip irrigation system for efficient watering. Aim to water in the morning so the leaves dry by nightfall. Stick your finger 2-3 inches into the soil to check moisture – water when the top few inches feel dry.
Established plants generally need less frequent watering. Water deeply once a week during dry periods, and less often in cooler or wetter weather. Regularly check the soil moisture and adjust watering as needed based on weather conditions and plant growth. Remember, a healthy layer of mulch helps retain moisture and reduces overall watering needs.
No need to fertilize when you first plant your Azalea. Let it settle in and establish its roots before feeding.
Wait until after the spring blooms fade before fertilizing for the first time. Use a slow-release, granular fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants. Follow the package instructions for application rates specific to the fertilizer you choose.
You can continue with a single spring feeding after the blooms fade, using the same slow-release fertilizer as in the first year. Alternatively, for an extra boost in some regions with long growing seasons, consider a light, second application in mid-summer. However, avoid fertilizing past early August to prevent tender new growth before winter.
The best time to prune is right after the spring flowering period has ended, typically in late spring or early summer. Avoid pruning later in the season, as this can remove flower buds for the next year’s blooms.
Start by removing spent flower clusters by snipping them off at the base, just above the first healthy set of leaves. Be careful not to damage any new buds forming below the spent blooms. For shaping purposes, you can also trim back any long or leggy branches. Make clean cuts just above a leaf node or bud to encourage new growth in that area. Look out for any dead, diseased, or damaged branches and remove them entirely by cutting back to a healthy section of wood above a leaf or bud. If your Azalea has become overgrown, selectively thin some branches to improve air circulation within the plant. Additionally, remove any branches that rub or cross each other to prevent future damage.
Once you’ve finished pruning, clean up any debris around the base of the plant and dispose of it properly. It’s also a good idea to clean your pruning tools with disinfectant to prevent the spread of disease. Keep an eye on your Azalea after pruning for any signs of stress or disease. Water and mulch as needed to help it recover and promote healthy new growth.
